"Hi, I'm Stephanie Barnett here on behalf of Expert Village and I am going to show you today how to make a fabulous Split Pea Soup. Let's talk about stock pots. It is very important to have a good pot to make soup in. You don't want something made out of thin aluminum. You want a heavy stock pot. This is really heavy for its size. Also, you want to have a very heavy bottomed pan. Most of the weight in this pan is at the bottom of the pan. You want to have handles that you can grab it with. Always remember to use a potholder when you grab them because some handles do get hot. Others don't but some do and I burn myself more than once, so let's not go there. Also make sure the pan is big enough for the amount that you are making. If you are doubling the soup recipe, you might think about getting a larger pot to cook in. If you are making a small batch of soup, you can make it in a smaller pan. You can always make a small amount of soup in a large pan but try and make the soup work with the size of pan that you have.
