on 9/22/2008 Hi there Matt. I'm a new member so forgive any offence. I appreciate that you have put your time and effort into this video but I am concerned at the advice you have given. You are encouraging the use of a knife that is wholly unsuitable for the task at hand and using it in a dangerous and wastful manner. I cannot overstate how bad that knife is for the job at hand. A chef's knife would be appropriate for this task.

I was under the impression that the advice was "expert" but with all due respect, I feel you should consider continuing to share your recipes (thanks by the way) but perhaps laying off of the practical side of things somewhat.

Best Wishes from France.

"Hi! This is Matt on behalf of Expert Village and today I am going to show you how to make my homemade onion rings and homemade dipping sauce. Okay so now let's prepare our onions and of course, these are onion rings so we have to have onions. So we need to peel this and we have our trusty waste plate and so we are going to cut one end off here, cut another end off there; take that and dump that in the waste plate. Let's slice down one side just maybe one layer; that's about it. Cut that layer there. Let's peel the top off because are not going to use that so now we are peeled. What we are going to do is cut horizontally down and we are going to cut half inch slices. Roughly half inch slices so let's do that real quick. Take our knife. I don't have a ruler but you know, like so, like so. We are trying to not break them like this broke because we want them to be round, onion rings; they have to be round. So this broke and is useless to me. Cut down careful. See some of the outside parts are cutting or breaking but still this is still good here but we don't want the broken ones unfortunately, so we are going to cut down again and be careful. Once again, it is broke here but the ring inside aren't so that's good. We can put that aside. Just one more slice down the middle. Okay these aren't any good but these are. So also we have these right here and we have these. So now what we are going to do is very carefully separate the rings, so let's do that real quick. Be very careful because we want them to be intact so here's one. Just try, here's another ring, here's another ring and obviously as you get to the middle they get smaller but that's okay. They all taste good. That's a little too small so that is kind of useless so I will put that one in there. Going to pull this apart so that we have some nice rings here. Here's another. Okay you've got the idea. I am going to finish these up and go on to our next step. "
