How to Remove a Brake Caliper Dust Boot

"In this clip we're going to talk about the proper service procedure to rebuild a front brake caliper. In this step we're going to talk about removal of the caliper's protective dust boot and final disassembly of the caliper. What I have here is a shop vice. You can do it on the floor if necessary, but I like a vice because it holds it for me. Just going to take and snug our caliper down to the vice just like so. We're going to remove this dust boot right around here. This is the dust boot, and it extends at an accordion fashion as the caliper pops out. I'm going to take a flat blade screw driver and knock this seal out of it. You're going to want to be real careful when doing this; some caliper pistons are not steel. Some are ceramic or plastic and it is possible to damage it while removing the dust boot. Right there, that is the proper service procedure for removing your dust boot. I'm going to give it a try and see if I can slip my caliper out. Flip the piston out. It may be necessary to apply shop air to the orifice in the back where the banjo bolt goes, and take and blow that piston out. This is my caliper, and what I've done is put a shop towel inside here. What that will do is cushion the piston as I apply air pressure to it to pop it out of the bore just like so. Right there's your piston, and that is the proper service procedure for pushing it out of the caliper bore."
