"In this clip, we're going to talk about the proper service procedure to rebuild a front brake caliper. In this step, we're going to talk about the proper service procedure for removing the outboard brake pad. Now, the style of mounting the outboard pad to the caliper varies, decently, from manufacturer to manufacturer. However, it is very common for this pad to be mounted to the caliper. You see, it just doesn't fall off like the inboard pad would just slip out. What we're going to do is take and compress the Butterfly clip. This is called a Butterfly clip because it looks a little bit like a butterfly. That holds in these alignment pins here and here. Take and compress it with a thumb, and slip the pad off, just like so. And again, do the same on the other side, taking care not to drop your pad. This friction material has great resilience when compressed this way. However, if you drop your pad, it will chip the edge of it, possibly causing you brake noise. We're going to set this pad aside for later re-installation. New pads do not come in a caliper rebuild kit. That is the proper service procedure for removing the outboard pad from your caliper."
