About the Comp Eliminator Car Class in NHRA Racing

"TINA STULL: Hi, I'm Tina Stull and I drive the Top Dragster for Interstate Batteries. On behalf of Expert Village, today, we're going to talk about the basics of racing. What are all these classes? They have about eight different classes in--at least in the NHRA. And how do you know where your car might fit? Or even what are you watching when you go to a track and you're watching these different classes. The first one I'd want to talk about is Comp Eliminator. Competition Eliminator belong--usually it's referred to just as Comp. This one has up to 80 classes of cars, so you're talking every different kind of car that you can imagine: dragsters, sedans, trucks, roadsters, all of them can compete. They're all very--have very definitive rules on each of those individual classes: What they're allowed to do and what they're not allowed to do. So you really need to, like, get in your rule book and make sure that if your car fits in one of these categories that you are within the limitations. It's a very highly regulated class. These cars could be anywhere from a four-cylinder to an eight-cylinder, and the way that they make them all compete fairly is that they all have a national index and they're handicapped according to each class--the class by class. But like I said, you can have anything from the super charge, turbo charge and it's almost limitless, but it's one of the most fun classes to watch and one of the most competitive."
