Checking Tire Pressure Before Drag Race

"Hi, I'm Tina Stull, and I drive the top dragster for Interstate Batteries. On behalf of Expert Village, I want to talk to you a little bit about getting ready to go to the lanes. The first thing that we're going to want to check is your tire pressure. You need to take into consideration the weather. If it's heating up, then maybe add half a pound or an extra pound of air to them. If it's cooling down late in the day, you probably want to add a little bit more because those tires are going to get a change as that weather changes. You never really want to set them exactly to where you are because by the time you get up there you're going to heat up your tires, and weather can change so quickly. It's not fun running back to the pit to get an air bottle to put extra air in your tires. So, you're going to check your back ones, your front ones. Typically you don't need to check them every time, but for the little effort that it takes, the last thing that you want to have happen is a low front tire. So, we check those as well, and those typically you set exactly where you want. There's not a whole lot of change between the pit and there, so that's fine."
