    Series Summary

Nothing satisfies like a bowl of hot homemade soup after a long, mind-numbing day at work. Food has, for some reason, the ability to give us more than simple nutrition: sometimes it can just make us feel better, feel like the world is just a little bit easier to deal with than it was twenty minutes ago. And homemade cuisine is especially important in a society that does everything on the go, including eating. Getting back into the kitchen can help remind us what fresh, hot meals taste like. We might find that we never go back to fast food again.

In these free cooking classes on video, learn how to make different recipes for potato soup. Our expert will show you what ingredients and seasonings you need and how to prepare them, as well as the step-by-step process for putting these dishes together. Practice recipes for potato & beef soup, country potato soup, and sweet potato and garlic chowder. When you’re finished, you should have eleven gourmet soups to use as a main course, side dish, or even a snack. Try these recipes out—your taste buds will thank you.

    Video Transcript

"Hi, this is Josiah Owen with Expert Village today we will be making potato soup. The ingredients you need today are 2 quarts chicken broth, 1 cup chopped yellow onion, 6 oz of butter or (12 tablespoons), 2 lbs potatoes cut into 1/2" cubes, 1/2 teaspoons of black pepper, 2 cups milk, 2/3 cups flour. We're going to start off by peeling our potatoes and then cutting them into 1" cubes. Now if you're peeling a potato we're going to need to start on our onion. You want to cut the ends off and peel the outer layer of the onion, this is going to be too rough for us to eat, we can't use it this is just a protect layer for the onion. So as we peel that off cut the other end off and if you just want to make a couple of slices throughout the onion, this is a easier way to make diced onions. You turn it half way and go the exact opposite, you want to make a criss cross pattern. After you do this you want to put it on its side and start dicing away, make sure not to get your fingers."
