we have an older ceiling fan/light--can't even tell what brand it is. the sockets are so old, that they're constantly burning out light bulbs. we removed the...housing, I guess (part that the globes are attached to) and took it in to a store for reference. the sales clerk said any kit would work. we brought one home and tried to use it. the new housing does NOT fit into the...upper housing (round part on the bottom of the fan enclosing the wires). they are the same size.
the new kit came with an upper housing piece that fits quite well into it's new housing piece. but there doesn't seem to be a way to remove the old, upper housing piece from the bottom of the fan, so we can't use the 2 new pieces together.
we can't simply remove the sockets from the old housing, because, unlike the new housing, the sockets appear to be welded on in some way, rather than attached with a bolt/nut. it isn't a matter of simply cleaning the old sockets, as there is a part that is worn (a small, dimple-ish area on the bottom of the socket)--in one of the sockets, this dimple is completely gone. (it looks like solder. and, of course, that is the socket that burns out a bulb in about a day.)
other than the worn sockets, the fan/light work fine. it would be stupid to simply throw away money on a whole new fan/light. so now what?
oh, and our fan doesn't have that nice connector thing in the upper housing piece. there's a plastic connector with TWO wires going in, and a related plastic connector on/in the lower housing with 2 wires coming out. then there are 4 or 5 OTHER wires, all with a wire nut them for some reason, all crammed up into the upper housing. (yes, one of those wires is pink like in the video.) so there isn't enough room to also have all the wires, wire nuts, and...little black box, that's in the new kit's housing.
