" Hi! I am Drew Finn here for Expert Village.com. We are going to discuss how to cut down a tree safely today. This video is brought to you by Black Dog Video. You can visit it on blackdogvideo.biz. Perpendicular to this line right along here, is where it wants to fall. So if you took a T square and put it perpendicular to that, that’s where it should fall. Now a big factor in that obviously is where the tree initially wants to fall which is a little bit this way. We have got the cable going this way to counter it back and when we cut through the back, we have got to cut through evenly on both sides. We cut through one side first. It is going to tend to fall away from the side you cut through first. So our next step is going to be cutting down at an angle here to actually make the felling cut."

on 12/10/2008 Please never, never follow this guys' direction. His thumb isnt wrapped around the bar, he doesnt use the chain brake, he is felling a tree against the lean, doesnt have chaps on, no hardhat, and his face cut is pathetic. You will hurt yourself if you try it this way.

on 8/2/2008 The notch shown here does not allow enough hinge action prior to wood fiber failure. What the heck was he thinking when he reached over to grab the wedge off of the bar without killing the saw or locking the chain brake! I'm amazed this guy still has all his fingers!

on 8/2/2008 The one factor overlooked in this video is how -- off the tree is to have this notch made so near its groin. I think it is plotting how to fall on this guy and turn him into a tuber.
But I learned a lot from this video. I need to cut down some trees. Note to self: Cut down many trees tomorrow.

on 3/13/2009 P.S. I guess a hard hat would help with those annoying squirrels from throwing pine cones at you but what good would it do if a tree fell on you?

on 3/13/2009 I just discovered this site yesterday. I am a novice looking to learn. I've watched some of these videos, and granted, he may not be a total expert and know all. But some of the things you other people are criticizing him about I didn't see. The chain was off when he took the wedge off, he does have chaps on, those orange pants are not just for good looks. If the tree fell against the lean, I guess he knew what he was doing. If you guys are the experts, give me your website so I can watch your free videos. I appreciate his effort.
