Today we know that many of the pesticides, fertilizers, and treatments used in commercial and home agriculture are hazardous to the environment. They can drain all the nutrients from the soil and poison any insects living there, rendering the land dead and stagnant. Cattle are often treated with hormones to produce more milk or larger muscles, and many of them are bombarded by pesticides and chemicals from the grass and feed they eat regularly. Gardening and lawn care, done with special attention to pesticide and fertilizer application, can be an effective way of minimizing our detrimental effect on the environment.
In this free video series, our expert Travis Steglich will tell you all about lawn care spreaders. He will tell you how to adjust, use, and clean hand held and walk behind lawn spreaders. He'll also talk about the advantages and disadvantages of the two different kinds of spreaders. He'll even give you a demonstration of the different types of lawn spreaders.
"The Earthway Seeder that we're talking about today has very simple adjustments. There's a little trap door in the bottom right next to the little rotating propeller that allows you to adjust the amount of seed, or possibly even ant growth regulator that you may even put on your yard to go from the widest opening position. And number three to number one, which is the smallest, I mean, it almost barely doesn't move. But these kinds of seeders are generally used for just that, to cover, spread seed on a bare spot in your yard. They generally don't have a high enough capacity to do fertilizer, but other materials that require low application rates, these are ideal because they're easy to store and easy to use. And they don't cover a wide swath, so you may working in a narrow place around the side of your house and this is an ideal piece of equipment."
