Today we know that many of the pesticides, fertilizers, and treatments used in commercial and home agriculture are hazardous to the environment. They can drain all the nutrients from the soil and poison any insects living there, rendering the land dead and stagnant. Cattle are often treated with hormones to produce more milk or larger muscles, and many of them are bombarded by pesticides and chemicals from the grass and feed they eat regularly. Gardening and lawn care, done with special attention to pesticide and fertilizer application, can be an effective way of minimizing our detrimental effect on the environment.
In this free video series, our expert Travis Steglich will teach you how to use a lawn sprayer to apply pesticides and fertilizers to your garden or lawn. He'll teach you how to assemble, inspect, and pressurize your lawn sprayer. He'll talk about lawn sprayer safety features and equipment, and about how to mix and apply the chemicals with your lawn sprayer before talking a bit about dealing with drift.
"We're talking today about hand sprayers, compression hand sprayers that are used to apply to all kinds of liquid sprays to all kinds of surfaces. This particular one come in a box and has all the necessary parts for quick assembly. It's a handle to carry the unit with, the tank and this is a pump assembly that actually compresses air. You pump it, it pumps air into the tank and it has no place to go so it produces pressure which allows you to spray the liquid by pressure through the wand. This is a cut off valve which cuts the sprayer on and off and this is the wand which has a spray tip on the end of it. All these parts come together once you get an assembly done you are ready to go spray."
