"When do you know when your compost is ready? You know when it’s ready when there’s nothing recognizable in it. This top layer still has a little bit of recognizable matter in it. See, this was once kitchen scraps and straw, weeds, that kind of thing. So when there’s nothing recognizable in it, and it’s ready in about somewhere between six months and two years. And that depends on the carbon/nitrogen ratio you have and how often you turn it. "
