How to Repot a Plant

" On behalf of Expert Village, my name is Craig Morrell. I'm with Landscape Restorations in Miami, Florida. We're here at Palm Hammock Orchid Estate and we're talking about planting, and fertilizing. The title of this clip is how to repot a containerized plant. We're going to choose the simplest possible techniques, which tend to be the best. First one is we're going to choose a pot that's a bit larger than the plant that we have it in now. For instance, in this coleus, in a 6 inch pot, but the plant's quite tall so we'll test fit it so that the plant looks proportional to the pot. So we're choosing a 10 inch nursery pot here that's relatively deep. This is called a full depth 10 inch pot. Second part is we're going to use a synthetic mix. This is called a pro-mix. Add mix until the level of the pot here is slightly higher than the root ball. That will allow plenty of room for the roots to get in. We'll fill this in with this pro-mix, which is a mixture of peat moss and perlite; commercially available also as African violet mix. Usually choose a pot 2 inches or 3 inches larger than the pot that you come out of. "
