" On behalf of Expert Village, my name is Craig Morrell I’m with Landscape Restorations in Miami, Florida. We’re here at Palm Hammock Orchid Estate in Miami, Florida talking about basic gardening. The title of this video section is how to be critical in your taste for plants. Here is a good example, if you’re growing a plant that isn’t doing well for you, consider finding out if there are substitutes that will do the job even better for you, and one good example are plants which are variegated. Variegated plants tend to be inherently slower growing and a little bit weaker because they don’t have as much chlorophyll inside the foliage. Many people love variegated plants but find them to be a little bit difficult to grow, and one of the ways to get out of that is to go to plants that are non variegated and you can certainly mix and match the two. You can put the variegated shorter growing plants in front, the larger growing more robust all green varieties in the back and end up with a nice back drop. There’s nothing wrong with changing up parts of your garden as long as it works into a plan and that’s one of the biggest points of overall gardening, just work your way into a plan and if we can get around the chickens in our garden, you’ll have a perfectly delightful garden.
