" On behalf of Expert Village, my name is Craig Morrell. I'm with Landscape Restorations in Miami, Florida. We're here at Palm Hammock Orchid Estate and we're talking about planting, and fertilizing. The title of this video is that it is critical not to bury the root system of any plant that you put in the ground. The idea is that you want to get the roots and soil, but you don't want to bury the root ball. So now that we've got our really good mud gloves on, we can bury this plant in the ground but just at the right height. Now one of the things that noticeable is that this plant is actually too deep. It's below the mean ground level. If we were to bury the root system, the plant would probably suffocate. So what we'd like to do is add a bit of soil until the top of the root ball here matches the native grade. Then we'll add soil until we get it to the right dept. Notice that we've even got some soil on top of the root ball here. So we'll pull that away from the stems, press firmly, and smooth out the soil so that the soil here and the soil here are the same dimension. "
