"Hello everybody I am David Rodriquez, horticulturist with Texas Agri-life Extension service on behalf of Expert Village and we are going to show you some gardening steps in preparing your vegetable garden for the spring planting. As we are seeing here, this coarse mulch, this organic mulch material is the dreaded hardwood mulch, this comes free from the city dump site from recycled Christmas trees and wood that landscape contractors drop off. So it is free and you can check with your local municipality and see if they have any mulch, mulch cuts back on weeds, it is aesthetically pleasing, makes an excellent walkway, a good barrier for where the garden bed is going to be planted. Now remember that the garden bed is rich, a little bit of sand, a lot of good compost, a lot of good organic matter so there is a big difference between garden mix and mulch. But mulch is essential for the walkways, to keep weeds down and we always want to replenish it every spring and every fall when we do vegetable gardening. "
