I'm Doug Smiddy of Smiddy's Gardening Services here on behalf of expertvillage.com and welcome to my garden. Today we're here to talk about low maintenance gardening. Now we've chosen our garden location, plenty of sunlight, we've got good soil in there, now we want to pick what to grow. You want to grow what you like to eat. You want to bare in mind where you live. For instance I'm here in Northern Vermont, I'm not going to be growing coconuts and tropical plants, so think about what you like to eat and if you're not sure go down to your local garden center and ask the experts what they would recommend if you can grow the things you like and read your seed packets, I can not over emphasize how important it is to read those seed packets. It'll give you a wealth of information. Now my little garden here in Northern Vermont I've got some onions growing and carrots, tomatoes, pole beans, behind there I have some peppers and some peas growing. They all grow really well here in Vermont. Now that you've picked out what you want, in the next clip we're going to talk about making a plan for your garden instead of just arbitrarily throwing seeds in there, you want to figure out what the spacing is going to be. So we're going to talk about that in our next clip.
