"Hi, I'm Stan De Freitas, Mr. Green Thumb. One of the best bulbing plants for the southern part of the U.S. is that of the Amaryllis. In fact, it's probably good for all of America, but Amaryllis are one of those plants that's a bulbing type plant. When you plant the bulb, make sure about a third to a half the bulb is above the ground, even in the container. Now, I know a lot of bulbs you plant really deep. You may plant a Tulip bulb three or four inches deep, or Narcissus you may plant two or three inches deep. Amaryllis are going to be on the surface, and above the surface. After a few years, Amaryllis tend to kind of dig themselves into the ground deeper, so you need to dig it back up, anywhere between October and February, and you're going to reset the bulb. Of course that has a nice green strap leaf, and the Amaryllis flower itself is a nice indication that you're either into spring or early summer. Amaryllis make a nice addition to walkways. It makes a nice focal point in the landscape or garden. If you want to use a good plant that will flower for a pretty good long time, remember the Amaryllis. Give it a nice bulbing type fertilizer. You'll have good results. For On Gardening, I'm Stan De Freitas, Mr. Green Thumb."
