Series Summary

Home improvement and repair is some of the most rewarding (and frustrating) work homeowners can tackle. Whether it's building a new deck, installing drywall, laying tile, or just changing out old shelf paper, home repair and maintenance projects can be done successfully with the right tools and the right knowledge. The key to making your task relatively hassle-free is a tactic that has worked for ages: divide and conquer. With step-by-step instructions—and a few professional tips—getting things fixed up over the weekend can be a blast.

Installing a new bathroom in a house can seem like a daunting task, but it becomes more manageable when the process is broken down into simpler steps. In this free video series, a repairman will teach you how to add a new bathroom to a home. From preparation work to planning and demolition, you'll learn about necessary supplies and things to consider. Specifically, you'll learn how to set up sewer lines, how to hang drywall, how to install sinks and vanities, and how to run water lines to the sink. This is only scratching the surface, however, as these expert tips will go into great detail on each of these subjects. By following these tips and techniques, you'll be steps closer to having a new bathroom in your home!

"Today we are going to talk about adding a bathroom to a home that is up for sale. It currently has one bathroom. The homeowner is thinking that if he adds another bathroom it will improve the value of his house and make it more appealing for someone to buy. It is about a 1,500 square foot home and it originally was built with two bedrooms and one bath and the previous owner enclosed the car port turning it into a family room or extra bedroom whatever you want to call it and the owner now has currently bought another house and he wants to fix this one up to make it more appealing to sell. I have met with he owner, he told me what he wants, I made a few suggestions and then we had go apply for a building permit which included making up drawings, telling the building department what we wanted to do, paying a fee, and then they gave us a permit to get started and that is where we are at now. As far as the utilities go we are going to be changing our water supply, our hot and cold line and we are also going to be tapping into our sewer line and we have did a little bit of gas work also. We had to call for a blue stake which means that the cities comes out and we had to mark where all of our utilities are: our water coming into the house, our sewer leaving the house, any power, cable, television any kind of stuff is laid out on the ground so that the construction people will have a pretty good idea of where these items are. We tied it to the sewer pipe alongside the driveway here and as far as the new water lines we tied them to the existing lines and just ran them around to where we need them using copper pipe and we will be hooking up for a toilet, a shower, a sink and a new washer and dryer on the other side that we have built."
