"Hi. I'm Dr. Dave Rizzo, better known as Dr. Roadmap, and I want to tell you about commute management, which is a fancy word for "beating traffic." There's a lot to be gained by learning to beat traffic; not just a shorter duration of travel (in other words getting to work quicker or getting home quicker) but you can also save some money. You could even save some gas because you'll be traveling less distance and you'll spend less time stuck in traffic. You might even have less stress. You'll arrive home in a better mood and you'll arrive at work in a better mood. And, about traffic and how I got into it, actually I started in 1987 when I made some alternate routes for the southern California area. Then, in 1990, I produced a book which covered alternate routes everywhere in Southern California. Then I worked as a traffic reporter on one of the top stations in the United States (a top radio station) where I'd give out real-time alternate routes. And just last year, I produced a book (Survive the Drive: How to Beat Traffic in Southern California). And along the way, I became a transportation coordinator and planned ride-sharing trips from California to New Jersey. So what I'm going to do for you now is offer you several steps on how to beat traffic. And we'll take you through trip preparation, what to do when you are on the freeway, what to do when you are on surface streets, and when to decide when to take the freeway and when to take surface streets; big difference. I'll also give away some of my secrets of finding good alternate routes so you can find them wherever you are, in whatever city! We'll also talk about reducing driving stress, and even avoiding road rage a bigger problem these days. And lastly we may even throw in a little bit of information for you on how to get un-lost, how to use advanced traveler navigation systems (which is the fancy word for navigation tools; you know, GPS devices). So you'll have a lot of tools to choose from to get you to work quicker, to get you home quicker, to beat traffic. So stick with me, Dr. Roadmap.
