"In this clip, we're going to talk about the proper way to change your oil in your rear differential. In this step, we're going to talk about the proper way to drain the oil from our rear axle. What I have here, is my drain pain, and rubber mallet. You're going to want to take and get your drain pain as close to the rear axle cover as you can. I'm going to take and set it on the milk crate here. Slide that right there and pick my drain pan up and set it on top. Just like so. The reason for that is you want to eliminate the possibility of any splashing when you knock this cover off. Now they use a RTV type sealant around here which forms a gasket. RTV stands for Room Temperature Valkanet. That valkanet word indicates it's going to be a rubber type of glue. I'll show it to you once I get the cover off. I'm going to take and strike the differential cover in the heavy duty part right here until it breaks free and the oil will drain out the bottom. As you can see, the oil is beginning to drain out. What you?re going to do next is take and remove the lower portion of the bolts and pry it out with a screwdriver and allow that oil to drain into your pan. You want to take and place all of your bolts in a magnetic tray, so you make sure not to lose them or kick them around on the floor while you?re performing the service. Alright, once we have all of the bolts out of bottom half, I'm going to take my flat bed screwdriver and work it inside, in between the cover and the case to allow the oil to come out. Go ahead and just leave your screwdriver in that and let it drain until all the oil comes out. Then you'll remove the cover for inspection and cleaning. That's the proper way to drain the oil from your rear differential."
