"Hi, I'm Doug I work with 20 great guys in St. Louis at Doug Jenkins Custom Hot Rods and we are going to do some work for you today on Expert Village. In this clip we are going to talk about why you paint your car. A car is made out of metal or fiber glass. You paint it to primarily protect it and secondary to make it look awesome. This is a awesome looking paint job but paint if easy to damage, and this one has been damaged right here. This 32 roadster was painted with a multi step process. It has flames, it has color fades, it has metal flakes, and it got chipped over here on top of the grill shell and so you can see where it a little bit gray. It went right down to the primer so this is not a repair that you can do with just a touch up brush and a little dab of clear. You would always be able to see it then so we have to sand this down, respray the whole thing and try to blend in with the rest of the paint. The part of the car that got damage is the grill shell. It goes around here and hold the grill in place. You saw that it was painted dark maroon color. That is done by putting a base color on and then some metal flakes and then we sprayed some candy over the top to dual the flake a little bit. But it starts with the maroon color and fades back gently all the way to the yellow and the white tips there. We have to be able to match that color exactly in the front in order for the repair not to show. "
