How to Remove an Old Brake Line

"DOUG JENKINS: Hi. I'm Doug. I work with 20 great guys in Saint Louis at Doug Jenkins' Custom Hot Rods, and we're going to do some work for you today on Expert Village. The next step is to remove the old steel brake line. The modern style brake caliper is a floating caliper, and it's not located in the same place all the time like the old-fashioned brake backing plates that we pulled off. They don't move. The calipers move. So you need rubber hoses at the ends. So we need to take the steel line off and throw it away. So these clips hold the brake line on the axle just to keep it from rattling and stuff. So it's going to bend off those clips and get the brake line out. He's pulling the center Y fitting off, pulling the bolt out of the differential. It holds that Y connector in place. And we're going to replace that Y connector with a new one that goes through a new rubber hose. And now he's got the bracketing device, and he needs to get the Y fitting out of the way of the bracket 'cause we're going to reuse the bracket and not the fitting."
