How to Clean Rotor from Dirt or Grease

"In the following clips we're going to talk about the proper way to repack, grease, and adjust your vehicle's wheel bearings. In this clip we're going to talk about the proper way to clean up the friction surfaces for your brake rotor. As you can see during our service procedure we have grease prints, contamination on this surface. What that will do is under mind the integrity or the coefficient of friction between your brake pads and the brake rotor. All of this grease has got to go. Just take a shop rag or a paper towel, hold it about so, and give it a spin. If it's heavily contaminated you may want to use a spray solvent. Brake clean is what I would suggest. For this particular application I would suggest using a brake clean. Spray it on and just let it air dry. Make sure to do the inboard edge of the rotor as well. They have two sides, you can see all the goo I got off there. Make sure to get the inside edge. Quick visual inspection of the backside of the rotor, make sure we haven't missed any grease goobers. There we go. Very critical! If these pads are contaminated with a large quantity of wheel bearing grease they won't stop. The only thing they have going for them is their griping power and if you lubricate the surfaces they lose that power. You want to make sure your surfaces are very clean."
