In these clips we're going to talk about the proper way to inspect and adjust your drum style rear brakes. In this clip we're going to talk about the proper way to install your drum brake adjuster. What we're going to do is line up our receiver slot in the vertical position. Take and slip it on right there. Make sure it's seated on the shoe. Pull our adjuster lever out and just slightly. We're going to grab a hold of this shoe and pull it outward. You're going to have to overcome the spring pressure. If you can't do it by hand you may want to use a pair of wire cutters or side cuts. Which I will demonstrate, here for you, the proper way to do that. I use wire cutters or side cuts because they apply an amazing amount of grip. Grab a hold of it right there. Pry it outward and flip our adjuster into position. When you have it in position you can release the pressure. As you can see, it's seated here and the other receiver cut is seated on the shoe; and the adjuster lever is seated on the star wheel. ...And that is the proper way to install your rear brake (or drum style brake) adjuster.
