Series Summary

The automobile—a machine that means so much to so many—is a complex system built on the designs and ideas of men and women who are long gone from the world. And while we’ve enjoyed traveling the back roads of childhood, the streets of adolescence, and the highways of adulthood, the car has remained a reliable means of transportation, as well as a vehicle that embodies the hopes and dreams of reaching exciting new destinations, or returning home.

Cars, as with everything else in this world, deteriorate with use or non-use over time. In this free video clip series our expert, Doug Jenkins, will not only show you how to maintain your car but also how to completely restore and renew its paint job. You'll learn how to scuff off old, dry paint, apply new paint and even fix blemished in the paint job as your cars becomes like new before your eyes.

Video Transcript

"Hi, I'm Doug. I work with twenty great guys, in St. Louis, at Doug Jenkins custom hot rods and we're going to do some work for you today on Expert Village. Now Alex is going to install dart tape, d.a.r.t., around the edges of the door. It's a real flexible, sticky masking material that we run around the inside edge of the door so that no paint or clear or sealer blow in around the edges of the door. It used to be we would back mask a door before they invented this stuff and was real tricky to try to get all that stuff masked without causing a problem. Now, you put the dart tape in there. It's nice foam stuff. They make it several different diameters. You stick it inside the jam and you can shut the door on it and it seals up real good and you don't have any paint going where you don't want it inside the car."
