"Today we're changing an air conditioning compressor on a '96 Ford Explorer. In this step, I'm going to demonstrate the proper service procedure for removing your serpentine belt. Now what we have on the vehicle is one belt that runs all of the various accessories. In order to change our compressor, we're going to need to take the belt off of at least that pulley. Now the serpentine belt on this particular vehicle has a spring loaded auto tensioner. And the release mechanism for the auto tensioner fits the three-eighths head of a small socket wrench. Alright, what you're going to do is insert your three-eighths ratchet head into the tensioner and rotate downwards. You can see how we're developing slop on the belt just like so. And I'll show you one more time. We're going to rotate downwards and slip the belt off of the alternator pulley. You can then take and release your ratchet and work the belt off of your air conditioning compressor pulley. That is the proper service procedure for removing your serpentine belt."

on 6/13/2009 Thank you, thank you!
I was at an impasse trying to figure out how to move the tensioner. If it wasn't for your video and the ratchet trick, it would have been a trip to the shop.
Thank you for making the videos.
