Installing a Brake Caliper Bridge

"Hi! My name is Nate McCullough on behalf of expertvillage.com. In this clip we are going to talk about installing one of the components we removed to replace our broken wheel stud. The next component we need to put back on the car is our caliper bridge. This is your caliper bridge. Before you install it, you are going to want to take a quick look at it. Make sure there is no cracks or indication of excessive heat. If there is a large amount of surface rust built up here and here or here and here, you are going to want to go ahead and take your screwdriver and give it a scrape job. This here is okay. That's not an excessive amount. How the caliper bridge goes on in this particular vehicle is just like so. The reason why they use a caliper bridge is the vehicle's suspension knuckle is not stiff enough to carry the load of the braking system. So what they do is reinforce the knuckle with a caliper bridge. Just add pretty much a little bit more metal back here to operate with. What you are going to want to do is start both bolts before you tighten any of them. That way you can ensure you have enough free play in it to get them both started. Once you get them started you can go ahead and tighten the bolt down. Here's my small ratchet here for clearance purposes. These bolts are going to tighten down righty tighty or clockwise. These bolts are going to tighten down to a tork ____ of approximately 104 lbs. For that I am going to use my wrench here. Make sure I grab the right one for you and I am going to impact them with the palm of my hand. A 104 lbs is approximately as hard as the average man can pull with one hand. You want to make sure these are torched properly. Give them a good tug. The average person probably isn't able to over tighten these bridge bolts. That is installation of our caliper bridge. "
