Heating a Thermostat Housing Bolt

"Hi, I'm Doug. I work with twenty great guys in St. Louis at Doug Jenkins Custom Hot Rods and we're going to do some work for you today on Expert Village. So, now Mark's going to heat it up and it's going to burn all that nice penetrating oil off and make a big smoky mess. After a period of time, I'm going to move the torch around, don't sit in one spot, he's trying to heat up the metal around the bolt; not heat up the bolt. If you get the bolt hot then the bolt will want to just twist because it gets real soft. So we're trying to heat up the metal around the bolt so that it expands. And by golly, now he's able to back the bolt right out of there without breaking it off. Save us a lot of trouble. Don't reach down there with you fingers and take that off. So now after it cools we'll be able to attack the broken one there."
