Hi! My name is Nate McCullough on behalf of In this clip we are going to talk about the proper way to remove your vehicle's brake and rotor. If you are going to replace the rotor, it is okay to just take the rotor off and discard it if you are not going to have any future use for it. If you are not going to replace the rotor and you happen to run across a situation where the brake rotor is ceased to the steering knuckle and you want to reuse it, you are going to have to brake it free from that rust. Your first idea might be to just take it and strike the rotor with a hammer. Like I said if you are going to reuse that, that's exactly the opposite of what you want to do. If you strike that rotor surface, you are going to distort the disc. If you distort that disc there is no going back. It will be warped passed the point of repair. The only thing that you got on your side is time and patience. You are going to have to tap around the top hat surface being that is where it is ceased, you will tap around between the studs taking care of not to strike any of the threads tapping around and around and around in that manner. You only want to hit the rotor about this hard. That's it, no harder than that. If you distort or mushroom this top hat's surface, the vehicle's wheel will not sit flat on it and it will cause you a vibration. Like I said don't strike it on the back at all. You are only allowed to strike the top hat surface here, work your way around the rotor both on the surface of it here and here. That's the proper way to remove your rotor.
