How to Inspect Strut Mounts

"Hi my name is Nat McCullough on behalf of expertvillage.com. In this clip we are going to talk about the proper way to finish disassemble and inspection of our struts. As you could see we have the coil spring caged with our spring compressor. We are going to want to be pretty gentle with this cause it does have potential energy stored in that spring. Take that guy out and just set him out of the way. What we have here is our weather boot on top of the strut we are going to remove that component. We have our bump stop right here. This is pretty important piece what this does is gives you a cushion to keep your suspension from bottoming out. Some of them could be relatively deteriorated as long as you put on what is left of it. You would avoid that real loud hammering noise when you suspension bottoms out that is your last ditch cushion right there. We are going to want to remove this lower spring rubber right here and take a look at the flans itself. We are going to spring our.. there and this is our strut flange. You are going to want to inspect in this area for any kind of cracks our excessive corrosion. This seats actually holds up all the way to the vehicle so you are going to want to make sure that it is in good shape."
