Series Summary

Automotive lighting is one area of mechanics and car care that might seem intimidating to the average driver when it comes to do it yourself repair and replacement. However, vehicle headlamps work very similarly to all the lighting fixtures encountered around the home or office: bulbs illuminate the road, and occasionally need to be replaced to ensure safety on the road and proper standards for inspection. In this video clip series, you will learn the basics of headlight and taillight removal, replacement and installation as our expert mechanic demonstrates the steps. Everything from choosing the right bulb to cleaning up after a replacement job, as well as tips for testing a light's effectiveness and tools required for this DIY automotive job.

Video Transcript

" Hi! my name is Danny, in today’s video I am going to teach you how to repair and maintain headlights and taillights. Our first step is to gather the needed tools for this project. For this example we will only need a Phillips head screwdriver, a standard head screwdriver plus a small shop or hand towel. Open your engine hood and locate the bulb behind the headlight housing. On this 2001 Honda, the main headlight bulb is located on the driver side near the washer fluid reservoir. With your fingers grasp the bulb and connector, then twist counterclockwise a quarter turn, once loose, remove the bulb by pulling it straight out."
