How to Check for an Engine Oil Leak

" Hi! This is John on behalf of expertvillage.com. In this video clip, I will show you how to check for engine oil leaks. When taking a look at engine oil leaks, the main place that your engine is going to leak from is from the oil plug here. As you can see the bottom of the oil pan looks pretty wet and if I touch that, I have a dark liquid which is probably oil on my finger so this car is probably leaking just a little bit of oil. Now one quick fix that you can do if your oil plug is leaking, is to get a fiber gasket and next time you change your oil, when you put your oil plug back in, you can put that fiber gasket on there and that might help seal it. The next thing that I look at when I look for oil leaks is the oil pan gasket which is located between the base of the oil pan and the top side of it. Where those two parts meet, there is a gasket and sometimes that gasket can go bad and leak as well. "
