Series Summary

The automobile—a machine that means so much to so many—is a complex system built on the designs and ideas of men and women who are long gone from the world. And while we’ve enjoyed traveling the backroads of childhood, the streets of adolescence, and the highways of adulthood, the car has remained a reliable means of transportation, as well as a vehicle that embodies the hopes and dreams of reaching exciting new destinations, or returning home.

For a car to operate normally, it must have some basic care and maintenance, and a key component of this maintenance is changing the transmission fluid. Changing the fluid will ensure smooth-shifting gears and extend the life of the transmission. Follow the easy steps in these videos and you can safe money by changing the transmission fluid yourself instead of taking your car to a mechanic.

Video Transcript

"In this step, we're going to talk about the tools required in order to service your front-wheel drive automatic transmission. What I have here laid out in front of me is my hydraulic floor jack for jacking the vehicle, my drain pan to catch and recycle all the automatic transmission fluid, my standard metric socket set which we'll be using to remove transmission pan bolts. My jack stands for safety precautions. And in front of them, my trusty magnetic tray. These are the tools required in order to service your automatic transmission."
