Summary: Learn how to inspect the rotor and brake pads in this free instructional video on how to change brake pads for disc brakes.
" Hi! This is Jon from Expertvillage.com and we will continue step 8 in our procedure for replacing disc brake pads in this video clip. In this step, we will need to inspect the rotor and the current brake pads that are on the car. Earlier I talked about taking a look at the rotor, however, we also need to take a look at the backside of the rotor. What I like to do is take a piece of chalk and mark on the wheel stud with the corresponding line on the rotor. This will help you get it lined back up when we put it back together. Once you have it marked you can pull the rotor off and take a look at the backside and feel it to see if there is any deep grooves, pits or scoring. This will help tell you if you need to replace your rotor as well while replacing your brake pads. While your caliper is suspended, you also want to check your brake pads to see if there is any deep scoring or grooving on those as well. If there is you definitely know that they need to be replaced."
