How to Check Engine Oil Levels

"Hi, I'm Jake from Burt Brothers Tires and on behalf of Expert Village.com we're going to show you how to check your oil and talk a little bit about the proper oil you should place in your car. First of all in checking it you want to remove the dipstick and make sure the car's not running. Always wipe the dipstick off the first time you check it, then re-install it. Pull it back and check your level. O.k. you can see we're right on, on this particular vehicle here. They've designed this dipstick right here to have little dots here to show maybe how many quarts you may be low. So if you're down and to this line you'd be down two quarts so you want to add the little bit right there. So we put this back in we know our oil is checked o.k it's not a bad idea to just always double check yourself and make sure you're dead on right there. So obviously you can see right there we're right on the full line, right where we want to be. If you ever need to add any oil there?s a little oil fill tube right here. You remove the oil cap which just happens to have the grade of oil that this vehicle is recommended to have. Always consult with your owners manual in your vehicle to find the proper oil you should be running in your vehicle. Every vehicle is different and requires special blends and grades and viscosity levels. So consult with that to get the proper oil. Make sure if you're in winter climates or in hot summer climates that you use the proper oil also. If you need to add oil you just add it into that tube, place the cap back on and check your oil again. So it's very important to have your oil checked regularly. With newer cars you want to obviously check regularly if you have your engine oil changed. Older cars if they leak a little oil you want to check them more regularly maybe every time you fill up with gas and it's not a bad idea."
