"Hi! I am Dr. Adrienne Mulligan, I own Camp Verde Veterinary Clinic, and I am here today on behalf of expertvillage.com to talk to you about cat obedience. One of the things that you are going to need to work with your kitty on when you first get them is getting along with other household animals. So you might have dogs or other cats when you get this kitty, and they all have a little bit of seniority. They have been there a longer than this kitty, and so what I recommend is setting the kitty up with his own little area, and having a litter box and his food and his water and putting it in middle of the room, so all the other animals can come around and sniff in and check him out until they are comfortable with him, so that they do not feel he is coming in and taking over their territory. And when I first brought Vincent, the kitty that is shaved, my big and black white Maine coon, actually he was too big for this, so I put him in our little bathroom that we have with a doggy gate, and all of his little stuff, and he lived there for about three days while all the other animals got used to him being there. But I think the crate works pretty well for that situation, and then the crate can also be used as a place to put him when you want to leave and not have him jumping up on furniture while you are gone, and you cannot reprimand it."
