Be Consistent & Persistent During Cat Training

When most people get a cat they don't think about training it to obey. One of the main reasons for this is because potty training is not an issue. They always go in the littler box once they find it and other things like scratching furniture don't enter into the equation until later in life. The truth is that cats need and should get just as much obedience training as dogs or they feel as though they rule the home and you are just in their space. It should be conveyed to your cat that you are the boss and should be obeyed.

" Hi! I am Dr. Adrienne Mulligan, I own Camp Verde Veterinary Clinic, and I am here today on behalf of expertvillage.com to talk to you about cat obedience. First of all, I am going to tell you that the cats are not obedient creatures. They are not dogs. Cats come in different personalities and different types of stubborn versus willing, versus wanting treats versus not wanting treats. You really sort of have to work with what you have when you get a cat. So all of these things I am going to talk to you about are only suggestions or places to start. It is not going to work on every single cat, and you are going to have to find out what works for your cat. But the one thing I am going to tell you before I tell you anything else is, everything we talk about you need to start early, so the earlier you can begin with the kitten and teaching it anything, or teaching it not to do things like get on furniture, the better chance you will have of teaching it that; and secondly the more consistent you are and your housemates are… your husband, your children, anyone who tells the cat no, don’t get up on that, everyone has to tell the cat no, don’t get up on that, and when you can prevent it you need to prevent it, when you can’t do anything about it, like when you leave, you need to place the cat into a room or a crate, some place where there is no furniture for to get up on…so consistency and persistency.
