" Hi! I am Dr. Adrienne Mulligan, I am the owner of Camp Verde Veterinary Clinic, and I am here today on behalf of expertvillage.com. I am here to speak to you about breeding cats. So let us say you find yourself in the unfortunate situation of having a pregnant female, whether she is a stray that showed up at your house, or whether she was your little kitten that you thought was innocent and wasn’t so innocent. Now you have a kitty that is pretty far along, and you have to decide whether to have her spayed and lose those lives, or to go ahead and have them and try to find homes for them. If you choose to go ahead and let her have them and then find homes for them, there are somethings you need to know. The mother needs a little extra nutrition, and so feeding her kitten food is a very good idea during the last part of her pregnancy; and during the nursing time, it gives her the calcium and phosphorus that the growing kittens need. The other thing is, you can give vitamins, and this is one that I like because it is the powder, it is really like a ground flax seed powder; so it is brown and it has amino acids and trace minerals and a lot of vitamins, and has just a lot of things that are not just a vitamin; so this is a nice way to supplement. And this a forti-flora, which is intestinal flora, which can be very helpful for the mom and the kittens, because the mom, remember is going to be consuming the kittens’ feces, and the momma cat might get some diarrhea from having kitten food and eating the kittens’ feces, and so might need a little help, and these are just intestinal flora that help digest those things a little bit easier, so these are just some ideas.
