" Hi! I am Dr. Adrienne Mulligan, I am the owner of Camp Verde Veterinary Clinic, and I am here today on behalf of expertvillage.com. I am here to speak to you about breeding cats. Now suppose your nice little cat like Holly went out and got pregnant, and now you have noticed those signs of being in heat have calmed down, and she is sticking around the house and maybe even beginning to gain weight. And now you kind of suspect she is pregnant, because she is getting some nipple development. We can spay those cats at any point in time. It is a little bit sad because, the closer you get towards the delivery, the more you are taking the lives of little kittens that are almost little kittens, and they are coming the next day or so; but there are so many unwanted kittens out there that you just sort of have to believe you are doing the right thing by taking these kittens out of that pool of kittens out there, that are either being put to sleep because they haven't gotten homes, or being abused because they are getting put into homes that have too many cats and don’t take care of them well. So you sort of have to find it in your heart what your ethical stance is on that as a veterinarian, and there are some veterinarians who simply won’t do that, and they will ask the owner to have the babies, and then they will take the kittens and find them homes and take the responsibility. It just depends; different veterinarians have different views on that. So it is an option, and some vets can’t stand it, other vets do it because they will feel it is for the better good. "
