"Hi! I am Dr. Adrienne Mulligan and on behalf of expertvillage.com, I am going to talk to you a little bit about some scratching post type exercises and even though there not a lot of activity they will certainly help the cat to stretch their muscles and strengthen their claws and their toes, so that they can climb better and do other things that help them exercise climbing up tress or climbing up things in your house, which you may not always like, but those are ways to keep them slim and build their muscle. So there are lots of different types of scratching post or scratching items and every cat is different in the way the like to scratch. Some like to scratch in an upward position, so they like to scratch standing and like I don’t know if you can pan that our kitty is showing that one a little bit over there, so some like to be lazy, lay on the floor and scratch upwards and so these are usually the generally most popular, then some like to do that at an angle and so there are some that are built on an angle and then I have found recently that my cat prefers them flat on the floor and the way I found that is he began to scratch the carpets flat on the floor and when I got him this he totally went to town and he doesn’t scratch on the floor anymore and he scratches this. And this is an interesting item because it comes with refills of different things, this is cardboard but it comes with sisal, which is what this is made out of and it also comes with a carpet insert, so if your cat happens to like carpets then you can put the carpet insert in and then they like the feel of that. So cats are very tactile and what they like to feel when they are doing the scratching and so providing them with lots of options can really play a big role in saving your furniture and it helps them to stretch and exercise on their own and so those are things that should always be around for their exercise and keeping them trim and all of these things can help in lieu of being able to walk your cat on a daily basis.
