"Hi! I am Dr. Adrienne Mulligan on behalf of expertvillage.com and I am going to attempt to show you how to walk a cat on a leash. This is the not the easiest thing you will ever undertake, my advice to you is to start out when they are kittens and get them used to this at a very young age because once they are older and spoiled they don’t like to do it very much. But we will see if we can get Vincent here to work with us and of course he wants to play with his leash a little bit. What I am going to do with him is I am going to try to get him with some goody treats, so come on let us get you up on your feet, there you go, look here Vincent, you want to get it and so we put a nice treat that we know he loves right in front of him and then we let him finish eating that and this is sort of how you train them, drop another one over here, and you give him a little tug, little tug and little tug and let him walk over to it, there he goes, there he goes, then we just put another one over here, we give him little tug, little tug, there he goes. So that is basically in a nutshell how you begin to get an adult cat to walk on a leash. And he will still rebel sometimes and roll over and do crazy things and but for the most part they get used to it with a little bit of time. "

on 4/9/2009 Thanks for this advice. I have several cats that I need to get tested for FIV (one cat in the house tested positive and a female cat in the house has bitten other cats). I am keeping them in the house until I get them all tested. They are already miserable from not being able to get out of the house. I'm going to look into getting a harness or two to walk them.
