"Hi! My name is Sally from expertvillage.com from Fish Fantasy in Riverside. We are going to be speaking about how to buy healthy fish. Don't rush into buying a lot of fish and putting a lot in at one time. You want to do small amounts at one time for the biological filtration to catch up to the bio-load. Okay there are two types of bacteria that live in your gravel and your filter. This is called nitrus ammonius and nitrobacter bacteria. What they do is they convert your nitrogen cycle. Fish produce waste products such as ammonia. The nitrus ammonius converts ammonia into nitrite and the nitrobacter converts nitrite into nitrate which is a safer bi-product of fish. Then it is up to you to do your partials. Frequent partials are always better than one large sum partial. So you want to do like a 10 percent weekly or you can do a 25 percent monthly. I prefer to do 10 percent weekly. It is better for the fish. "
