"Now, when you are choosing a Hognose snake there are a lot of species out there in the pet trade. The most common one found in the pet stores is the Western Hognose Snake. Now the Western Hognose Snake has been bred a lot and it comes in a lot of different colors. The albino ones are highly sought after, it could be a very expensive snake. A normal Western Hognose Snake is pretty affordable and makes a very good pet. This Hognose Snake is another Hognose that is readily available. Not as often as the Western, but this is a Mexican Hognose Snake. Some other species that are also found on the market are the Easter Hognose Snake which is a very tricky snake to work with primarily because it only eats toads and frogs. But there are ways to change them over to eating mice, we'll talk about that a little later. Some other Hognose Snakes that you find on the market, more rarely, is the Southern Hognose Snake, which also is a frog and toad eater. It's hard to get it accustomed to taking mice, but there are some other tricks. And, lastly, there is a Hognose Snake from South America called the Tri-colored Hognose Snake, which is also a Coral Snake mimic. The Tri-colored is one of the larger Hognose Snakes, reaching over four feet long. Now, there's some old-world Hognose Snakes that are not true Hognose Snakes that are from Madagascar that are available in the pet trade every now and then. But usually these are wild caught snakes don't make the best pets. If you are ever thinking of a pet Hognose Snake, Western or Mexican sub-species of the Hognose Snakes are your best bet."
