Video Transcript

"Hi I’m Debbie McCanna and on behalf of Expert Village.com we are going to be talking about the care and maintenance of corn snakes in this clip. Today we are going to be watching an adult snake feed on a life mouse specimen. You can buy feeder mice such as this adult mouse at your pet store. If you are not comfortable feeding live food to your snake, you might consider acquiring a snake that is accustomed to eating frozen and thawed mice. Our snake will eat two of these adult mice in a feeding every 2 weeks. You can be faint at heart to watch this but it is a fascinating process. The snake will continue to constrict its prey waiting for the heart beat and the breathing to stop at which time he will uncoil and move around to orient himself to the head of the mouse. He will then disarticulate the lower jaw from the upper jaw to completely expand to maximum capacity its mouth and thereby follow its prey whole. It will continue to use muscle contractions to work its prey down on its neck and body. You can actually see the bulge moving through the body. "
