"Hi I’m Debbie McCanna on behalf of Expert Village.com. We are talking in this clip about the care and maintenance of corn snakes. Longevity is an important issue when considering any pet as well as size requirements. In the case of the corn snake with proper handling, a snake acquired as a juvenile can live up to 15 years in captivity. This should be considered when acquiring your snake; you want to make sure that you can provide for that snake for up to 15 years. In terms of size, a corn snake is a great first snake to have because its size is predetermined and set to reach a maximum of 6 feet. Most corn snakes however, don’t acquire that maximum in captivity. This one although 10 years old is only about 4 feet long and is not expected to get any larger. The rate of growth of your corn snake depends on how often it is fed. A juvenile can eat pretty much as much as you will feed it, as often you will feed it but the less often you feed it, the slower its rate of growth. This is not harmful to the snake and it may actually be helpful to you when learning to handle your snake as well as acquiring the appropriate sized habitat for your snake to meet its growth requirements."
