Series Summary

Chinese cuisine has a rich and storied tradition that is enjoyed throughout the world. In China, a meal typically consists of a starch such as noodles or rice, considered the main dish, and a vegetable or meat, considered the sides. This is contrasted with the culinary ideology of northern Europe and the United States in which the meat is usually considered the main portion of the meal. Many Chinese are also vegetarians, but not more so than in the west, and the use of chopsticks is a cultural vestige that evolved from the idea that using metal utensils is barbaric since such implements are also used as weapons.

In this free video series, our expert Hiu Yau will teach you an assortment of quick and easy everyday Chinese recipes. He will show you how to make Chinese corn soup, lettuce and beef soup, steamed egg custard, Chinese tomato scrambled eggs, stir-fry beef, steamed fish, and Chinese cabbage. Hiu will tell you all you need to know to make each recipe including the ingredients, garnishes, spices, and cooking instructions, so grab you chopsticks and make yourself a traditional Chinese meal in the comfor of your own home.

"Hello my name is Hui on behalf of Expert Village I'm going to show you quick and easy everyday Chinese dishes. The ingredients for the Chinese corn soup is extremely simple. It basically contains one can of corn, 2 cups of broth, and 1 egg. The egg you can use either the large one or the extra large but one serving should have one egg, it does not matter what size it is. Be sure when you pick the corn you have to pick the cream style not the other one. For the stock you can either use the store bought chicken broth or the homemade stuff. You need 2 cups and we need 1 teaspoon of salt and we also need 1-2 teaspoons of cornstarch as thicken agent."
