Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Tips & Warnings:
- Try to touch the rice as little as possible to keep it "light and fluffy." Don't pat it down too much or it starts to get sticky.
- Don't overfill your wrap.
Step1
Prepare your sushi rice. Follow the directions on your package or view the ehow article http://www.ehow.com/how_2032266_make-sushi.html . Cool rice. Season with sugar and vinegar.
Step2
Gather your other ingredients, fillings, so that they are ready. You can include fish roe, mayonnaise, avocado, crab, cucumber, preserved ginger, mushrooms, soysauce, etc. Cut everything into long thin strips.
Step3
Place your nori seaweed wrap on the bamboo sushi mat, shiny side down. Create a thin layer of rice on the nori, leaving about 1 inch at the top. (People often place too much rice on their wrap and then are unable to wrap this into a roll.)
Step4
Layer your filling ingredients into the center. Again, not too much.
Step5
Wet the top edge of the nori with water. Starting at the end closest to you, start rolling tightly, using the sushi mat to help with the rolling. Tighten the roll and seal the edge. Cut into bite-sized pieces. Enjoy!

on 10/5/2008 The video is a great little tut for a quick reference. With family and friends over it’s a great way to have fun, just have them create their own unique rolls and pass them around. Everyone gets to taste a differently prepared roll and have fun making them. However we didn’t have sushi mats so we just made due with what we had, which was a damp cloth and baking sheets that we cut in half. But we all had a great time! Thanks for the video!!!!!!
