Step 1
The music should be playing when the guests arrive and are seated, as it will set the mood and create appropriate atmosphere. The choice depends on the bride and groom, but the best variants are: romantic ballads, smooth jazz and piano notes. Watch the video to see children dancing and piano playing at a Christmas Wedding for an example.

Step 2
When the parents of the groom and bride will arrive, you may want to play a special song. It can be a generic song that the pianist can decide for you or you can decide. You can find out what their favorite song is, or even better yet "their song" and have the pianist play it.
-
Step 3
When the wedding party comes down the aisle, special music is necessary. This will cue the guests that the wedding is beginning. You can opt for Ode to Joy, Only Time by Enya or your own personal favorite or you can ask the church to play their recorded music.
-
Step 4
When it is time for the bride to come down the aisle, many churches or private organizations that hold weddings can play a recorded version of "Here Comes the Bride". It's your decision if you want a pianist playing or a whole recorded orchestra playing. The Wedding March and Ave Marie are two other songs that can be played.
-
Step 5
After the ceremony, when the guests depart, you can ask the pianist to play popular energetic music or if the ceremony is traditional and elegant, to play popular classics. It is nice to hear wonderful music as the guests chat and gather themselves to go to the reception.
-
Step 6
If you are having a reception after the wedding, you can opt for DJ music or you can have the pianist follow the guests to the reception. It's nice to have a pianist playing background music while your guests are eating dinner. After dessert, you can switch out the piano player for a DJ who can provide dance music and entertainment.
