Tips & Warnings:

  • Find the Online Tuner you like best..
  • Tune your guitar often, the it won't take so long!
  • Buy or use the Guitar Stand you have, so you can sit it down or pick it up quickly when you need to.
  • This method of guitar tuning is only as good as you are at matching the sound being produced by the "Online Tuner."
  • Online guitar tuning does require you using your keyboard at some point... some more than others. So have an area in the computer room you where you can safely put down the guitar where it won't get damaged.
Step1
Martin's Western Scene Painted Guitar.. Martin's Western Scene Painted Guitar.. Have your guitar sitting close by the computer you are using. It should be easily accessible, so that you can reach the computer keyboard and also have your guitar in your lap.
Step2
Resonator Guitar, still has 6 strings though... Resonator Guitar, still has 6 strings though... Go to the web site of your choice, like (my favorite) 8notes.com You can find a plethora of online tuners.. but on this site you don't have to use your keyboard as often. this online tuner keeps producing the Sound of the string your are tuning until you decide it's close enough. Then switch to the next string and continue this method until all 6 strings are in tune.. (according to your own judgment)
Step3
My Poppa tuning his guitar online in his camper in the middle of the woods! My Poppa tuning his guitar online in his camper in the middle of the woods! You do need to have a good ear for the pitch or replicating the sound from the "online guitar tuner" Unlike a portable hand held guitar tuner, there is not a swinging needle or red or green lights to indicate the string is in tune. You will have to decide for yourself if the string being tuned sounds like it is matching the sound of the "Online Tuner." Even if you don't have perfect pitch you can listen to the sound of the string being played online and then use the tuning keys of your guitar to lower or raise your guitar string to that pitch.
